IoT security: India faces growing onslaught of cyber-attacks

With cyber-attacks against internet of things (IoT) deployments in India up by 22% in the last quarter, experts are pointing the finger, in part, at politically-motivated hackers. A new report (PDF) from telecom analytics firm Subex states that, for the second quarter running, India is the most-attacked country in the IoT space. Among the main targets was technology and systems associated with ‘smart cities’, financial services, and transportation. Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru attracted the most attacks, Subex said.

Cyber Security: Are IoT deployments in India safe from hackers?

As of June 30, 2019, over 15% of smart cities project, 14 % of financial services and and 14 % of utilities that are part of various sectors in India came under cyber security attack, as per Subex, a digital trust solution provider for telcos in India. According to it, this is a result of increasing interest of hackers in critical infrastructures in the country, especially on Internet of Things (IoT) deployments.

The fact was revealed by Prayukth K.V, head of IoT marketing at Subex, which monitors critical and connected IoT (Internet of Things) deployments by official bodies that typically operate in sensitive sectors such as smart city developments, digital identity databases, smart roadways, etc.
