New Delhi was among the top 10 cities in the world that recorded the highest number of cyber attacks during the two-month- long lockdown, with many of them coronavirus-themed attacks according to a report by digital technology provider Subex. India was among the top five most attacked countries in the region throughout the quarter. The country attracted attacks of relatively high quality (as compared to other regions and last year).

Digital technology provider Subex said on Wednesday it has detected 46 per cent increase in attacks on smart homes, enterprises and control systems connected to critical infrastructure as the global cyber threat landscape alters amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus has not only impacted trade globally, it is also directly impacting the amount of cyberattacks happening in India. New findings from Subex, a global telecom services and security provider based in Bengaluru, reveal that within a month, the number of critical attacks on IoT and cyberdeployments in India have come down by 2,100 to 29,900 in February from 32,000 in January.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has cast a shadow on cyberspace as well. Subex, a Bengaluru-based firm that provides analytics to telecom service providers, said hackers are using the panic and confusion to trick employees and other stakeholders into downloading infected payloads or malware.

For three months in 2019, India faced the most cyber-attacks in the world, according to a report released by Subex, a Bengaluru-based firm providing analytics to telecom and communication service providers. The report, released on 27 February, notes that while the US was the most cyber-targeted nation in 2019, India held the top spot in April, May and June.
