Weekly threat monitor: November 22nd

OT and IoT cyberattacks continue to rise at a much higher rate as geo-political tensions rise in countries in the Middle East, Europe, and parts of South-Eastern Asia regions. Hackers are using malware and stealthy breach tactics to gain a geostrategic advantage by leveraging data and their hold on systems connected to critical infrastructure.

Cyberattacks on oil and gas and maritime sectors registered a rise this week.

Organizations in the manufacturing sector with un-segmented networks risk becoming highly vulnerable to infiltration of gaps in security posture, making it easy for the malware to move laterally across the networks, ultimately compromising data and assets. Time taken to identify a breach, lowered visibility across connected assets, ineffective incident-response playbooks, inaccurate information on the threat landscape and threat intelligence, and lack of governance on compliance mandates are clear areas of improvement.

Cyber resilience in critical infrastructure segments in the United States of America is crucial now, as a wave of sophisticated cyberattacks were observed over the past week to destabilize nationwide operations.
